CLAREMORRIS, COUNTY MAYO

Claremorris is a town located in County Mayo, ireland. The town is situated in the Mid-West ofthe country, near the junction of the N60 and the N17 major roads.

Claremorris has a population of about four thousand people, and lies at the foot of a valley with all roads which lead to the town following hills, especially the old Knock road (AKA Knock hill) and Ballyhaunis road.

Although Claremorris lies very low, does not experience flooding. There is no large rivers through the town.

Claremorris has seen a lot of new shops opening in the last few years, these include The Silverbridge Shopping Centre.

The development of Chapel Lane from a run down street to a highly successful commercial street, has transformed this part of the town. There are 4 major supermarkets competing for customers in Claremorris, including Aldi and Tesco.

Claremorris is located at a major road junction between the N17 Galway to Sligo road, and the N60, and this caused traffic bottleneck problems.

Claremorris houses one of eight inland weather observing stations in Ireland, and is situated about two kilometres from the town centre.
