CASTLEBAR, COUNTY MAYO

Castlebar is a town located at the centre of County Mayo, in Ireland. It is the largest town by population in the county, where the population increased enormously in the late nineteen nineties.

The town actually increased by a third in just 6 years, but this growth has slowed down a lot in recent years.

Castlebar is a market town traditionally, and it is still a major destination for visitors from all over the West of Ireland.

The town has experienced an increasing number of large well known national and international chain stores. Many new shopping areas have been developed in the past decade or so, on what were known as the suburbs of the town.

The town of Castlebar is the second largest retail centre in Connacht, next to Galway city. It is ahead of Sligo, despite Sligo's larger population.

Castlebar is a served by several road networks, including the N5 major road, also the N84 and N60 roads. Back In nineteen ninety a relief road was built around Castlebar, preventing through traffic on the N5 from the main street.

Castlebar has a wide choice of eating and drinking places, including Indian, Chinese, Irish and Italian. There are also fast food restaurants including Blue Thunder, Dominos Pizza, Cafollas, Danollas, and McDonalds.
