BALLINDINE, COUNTY MAYO
Ballindine is a village located in County Mayo, Ireland. The village is located about six and a half kilometres from Claremorris along the Western Railway Corridor.
The N17 major road passes through the village, with around ten thousand vehicles travelling through each day.
It is believed that Ballindine got its name from a fort called Baile an Daingin, which means Town of the Fortress.
The village of Ballindine has had it's cattle and sheep fair once a month since the sixties, and the September fair in the village was famous in the West of Ireland.
There is also a fair every July, and is also known as The Gooseberry Fair. This tradition took place in the village until two thousand and two, and was called The Gooseberry festival.
